Scaling

Polishing
Polishing follows scaling and is used to smooth the surfaces of the teeth. This process removes stains and any remaining plaque, making it more difficult for plaque to adhere in the future.
Gum Treatment
Gum treatment involves various procedures aimed at remedying the health of the gum and bone. Treatments may include deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), medication, and, in advanced cases, surgical interventions to manage and restore gum health.
The process typically begins with an examination of your mouth to assess the overall health of your teeth and gums. This may include X-rays to check for any underlying issues.
Using manual scalers or ultrasonic instruments, the dentist or dental hygienist carefully removes plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces and below the gumline. The ultrasonic instrument uses vibrations to break up large pieces of tartar, flushing them out with water.
In cases where gum disease has started to affect the area below the gumline, the roots of the teeth are smoothed to promote healing and reattachment of the gum to the tooth surfaces. This is known as root planing.
After scaling, the teeth are polished using a slow-speed handpiece with a soft rubber cup that spins on the end. Prophylactic paste, a gritty toothpaste-like solution, is applied to the teeth to make them smooth and shiny.
