Minor Oral Surgery & Wisdom Tooth Surgery

Minor Oral Surgery refers to various surgical procedures performed inside the mouth to address and treat dental conditions, often necessitating only local anesthesia with optional sedation. These are typically routine surgeries carried out by general dentists or oral surgeons in a dental office setting, ensuring patients maintain optimal oral health.

Step 1: Assessment with X-Rays

We start by taking an OPG or CBCT X-ray to carefully examine the position of your wisdom tooth and nearby nerves. This helps us plan a safe and precise removal.

You’ll be made comfortable in the dental chair, and we’ll use our painless injection device to numb the area with local anaesthesia. This greatly reduces discomfort during the procedure.

Our dentists will perform a precise and gentle extraction of your wisdom tooth.

  • We aim for flapless surgery whenever possible (no cuting of the gums).
  • If needed, we’ll make small incisions to access the tooth and carefully remove it.
  • Stitches may be placed to help with healing.

After the procedure, we will prescribe painkillers and antibiotics to help manage any discomfort, reduce swelling, and prevent infection. Most patients feel better within a few days.

Thanks to our minimally invasive approach, most patients recover within a week and can return to normal activities soon after.

Your healing is important to us. We will closely follow up after your surgery to make sure everything is going smoothly and to support you during your recovery.

Why Do

Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?

Wisdom tooth removal (also known as third molar extraction) is a common dental procedure that is often done to prevent or treat oral health issues. Here are the most common reasons:

Not Enough Space / Impaction

Many people don’t have enough room in their jaws for wisdom teeth to come out properly.

  • This can lead to crowded or misaligned teeth.
  • Impacted teeth (trapped under the gums or bone) can cause pain, swelling, or infec􀆟on.

Because wisdom teeth are far back in the mouth, they are hard to clean.

  • This can lead to gum infections, especially a condition called pericoronitis, where the gums become swollen or infected around the tooth.

Wisdom teeth can press against nearby molars and trap food, making cleaning difficult.

  • This increases the risk of cavities in both the wisdom tooth and neighbouring teeth.
  • If untreated, it may require fillings, root canals, or further treatment.

Wisdom teeth can interfere with braces or other orthodontic work.

  • Removing them may be necessary to create space and maintain the results of orthodontic treatment.

Sometimes a cyst (fluid-filled sac) can develop around an impacted wisdom tooth.

  • If let untreated, it can damage the jawbone, nerves, or nearby teeth.

Erupting wisdom teeth can cause ongoing pain or pressure, especially if misaligned or partially erupted.

  • Extraction helps relieve discomfort and protect your oral health.

Even if your wisdom teeth aren’t causing problems now, dentists may recommend removal as a preventive measure.

  • This avoids future issues that may be harder to treat later on.
